Heat Pump Problem

Dear Marcus, an old Air Energy heat pump that came with the home we just purchased so I do not know any maintenance history. The fan operates but it does not sound like the compresser turns on. The pool did not get any warmer after 4 days of running the pump. I had a technician look at the pump and he said he was not familar with the old Air Energy pumps but he did state he thought the compresser is bad. Last thing is every 4-5 minutes while the pump operates I hear a short squeal from inside the pump. Do you have any suggustions for me?? Thanks Jeff

Temperature setting

I have a Rome s-95 electric heat pump. The display stays at 95 degrees all the time. I set the temp to say 80 degrees and then it goes to 95 and starts. Everything else seems to work fine. It would probably run until the pool water got to 95 if I let it. Is there a way to calibrate the thermostate?

I noticed a few others have a Macon heat pump from China and are having some issues. I am also in the Comox valley and the contractor is promoting this pump 045ZB (84,700 BTU) for a new installation of a 14 x 32 shallow draft San Juan pool with cover.. As our Spring and Fall temperatures are in the low 60s during the day I am concerned that the unit will freeze up in-spite of its short cycle defrost claims. What other units have reversing functions that have proved reliable. I do not know how much the contractor is saving on this unit but do not want reliability or warranty issues down the road that would impact up time for the pool.

Breakers keeps tripping hayward pump

Hi to everyone here, this is my first post

breaker keeps tripping every time I turn it on!!!

We had a 50,000 Hayward heat pump installed to my pool. We ran 10/3 wire with ground to the heat pump. it requires a dual pole 20 amp 240 breaker. It only needed two hot wires and a ground with no neutral! we hooked the wires up to the pump just like the manual says with no neutral but it trips the breaker every time we turn it on.

can it be wired wrong with only two hot wires?

Can anyone tell me what is wrong?

Good day. When I installed my pool three years ago I only ran a three wire 120V circuit, about 60 feet of which is buried. The wife now wants the pool heated so I think a heat pump is the best way to go. I am planning on getting about a 50000 btu unit ( 18 foot above ground with solar blanket). My pump and clorinator are 120v, no 220 option. To avoid running a new cable I was planning on changing the circuit to 220 and getting a 3000W step down transformer ( about 100$) for the pump and clorinator put it in a enclosure and run the heat pump, clorinator and pump off one 220 outlet.

Any issue with this or should I just bite the bullet and run a second dedicated 220 feed ? Another option would be a spa panel with two breakers but I would still need the transformer since I don't have a 4 wire circuit.

Just wondering what an acceptable temperature difference is from ambient pool water temp to what the heater is putting out of the return. Want to know if my heater is working up to snuff.

I ve bought the heat pump in October 2008 directly from heatsiphon, this year in April 2011 the compressor was defective, after contacting Miss Gianini (the tech-support from heatsiphon) via chat - here is an extract:

Question re used heat pump

I am considering buying a 1.5 year old used Focus Temp Insta pool pump for my 24 foot above-ground pool. The seller indicates he paid $1200 for it new. (I found an ad for one at $1196-although it was out of stock). I am concerned because the price for this pump is significantly less than any other heat pumps I have found. Do you know anything about this particular model and any reason why it is priced so low? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

We are purchasing a home next month and I am looking into a heater for the pool. I thought gas was best until I started reading about heat pumps. Are they good for this area? It is an in-ground pool. Fairly large but I do not know the size at this time. Screened in, partial shade.

Quick question:

I will be installing heat pump (either a Hayward 85k or Waterco 85k) and am wondering if its common to have 1 hot or 2 hot wires plus neutral and ground to these devices. I have thoroughly looked over the online specs and wiring diagram which indicates two wires in (black and white, likely american diagram). Just need to know since I will be burying the line myself in conduit and need to know what to purchase.

Single phase 220v, operating amps 27.8

Heat Pump Icing Up

I have a MACON MALCRW045ZB Swimming Pool Heat Pump.

I live on Vancouver Island, Comox Valley. My heat pump is icing up even at temperatures around 13c. It does go through a de-icing mode, the ice melts but builds up again soon after when it resumes water heating. Is this normal?

The pressure guage indicates a pressure reading of 200psi and goes up to just above 300psi after it has run for a while. Is this normal? Sticker on front says normal operating pressures should be 300min to 600max.

I'm wondering if this is 2 problems or they could be linked - or maybe no problem at all.

Hi! We just bought a solarium 85kbtu heater for our above ground pool. Does it only work when the filter is on? We set the filter timer for 8hrs per night. How does the heater work when the filter is off? Also, do you know any installers in the Prt Jefferson, NY area?

Distance between heat pump and pool pump

Quick question,

I am trying to find the ideal spot to install my new heat pump.

Best place is currently about 30 feet away from my pool pump.

I was told this is way too far by my installation guy.

He says i should move it to 12 feet away (another location which is my 2nd choice)

What do you think?
