Hi! We just bought a solarium 85kbtu heater for our above ground pool. Does it only work when the filter is on? We set the filter timer for 8hrs per night. How does the heater work when the filter is off? Also, do you know any installers in the Prt Jefferson, NY area? |

I love that heater. It is best to set the pool filter pump to run during the day to get the most efficiency out of the heater. The heater will work only when water is flowing. Please call the office to see if we know anyone in your area to help out. 95% of the job is just to get a licensed electrician though. |

Oh, so it only runs when filter is on then. So how does it keep the pool temp up at night when filter is off? |

Thank you for writing back to me. The pool usually stays warm enough for hours after the heater has stopped heating especially if you use a blanket on the water. So you can run your water pump timer maybe from 9 am to 6 pm or 9 pm. You can run the water pump at midnight if you are going to swim really late or you can buy an accessory called a time clock override. Then the pool heater will have the ability to turn the water pump on and heat when the pool heater senses that the water is colder. Not my favorite thing as then the heater runs during the least efficient time to heat and it also comes on and off all night because the water where the heater is sensing the pool temperature is in the pipes on the heat pump and they cool down much faster then the pool. So you could have the heater and the water pump coming on and off every hour all night long. That is a lot of wear and tear I think. Sincerely, Marcus |
